MONITORING AND CONTROL SYSTEMS
To protect life beneath the surface, every-thing must be done to minimise and prevent discharges. IMO stipulates that a maximum 30 litres of oil may be discharged per nautical mile. Jowa supplies a monitoring and control system for ensuring that the amount of oil discharged from a ship does not exceed this limit. Our monitoring systems also meet the requirement laid down in MARPOL that all oil tankers of 150 GRT and above must have an oil discharge monitoring and control system installed.
Bilge Alarm - SeaGuard
No more than 15-ppm
The JOWA SEAGUARD 15ppm Bilge alarm is designed to monitor the effluent from a bilge water separator. The alarm is approved to IMO MEPC 107(49).
Several tests in the past indicate that only this material combination ensures a repeatable low conductivity in balance with longer life time. Constant contamination of silver surface increases the risk of spark erosion due to bad contact. Usually the system must be checked every week for cleanliness. Due to low staff and high work load onboard the Slip ring Cleaning Device continuously prevents increase of the residual potential and keeps PES in safe condition over long time.
The effectiveness of PES must continuously be controlled to keep the propeller protected. The remote indicator displays permanently by a two-coloured display about the present condition of the system.
Main Features
JOWA DPS - Discharge Protection System
JOWA Discharge Protection System, DPS, has the advantage to monitor and control the discharge of Bilge water to prevent any accidental oil discharge. All data is logged and stored for later printout or down load. This gives the operator full control over the discharge.
The DPS is available as a add on option to the JOWA 3SEP 15ppm bilge water separator. The unit functions together with the 3SEP’s control system and alarm. The entire DPS unit comes ready installed and pre-wired on the 3SEP’s control panel.

ODME 2005
Oil Discharge Monitor Heading for a Green Ship
The JOWA ODME 2005 Oil Discharge Monitor is approved in accordance with the test and performance requirements for "third generation" monitors, according to IMO resolution MEPC 108(49).
The requirements of the MARPOL Convention are that all oil tankers with a gross tonnage of 150 GRT and above must have an oil discharge monitoring and control system installed, incorporating an approved oil content meter, with a starting interlock and an automatic overboard valve control system.
Oil Discharge Monitor consists of the following main parts: A computer unit Intended to be installed in the cargo control room or in an equivalent non-hazardous area. The computer unit controls and receives data from the other ODME components. This information is treated for computing and control purposes and is stored into a flash memory, which could be displayed or printed out an external computer or printer, according to the requirements of the IMO resolutions.
A Zener barrier unit Intended to be installed in the engine room or equivalent safe area. The Zener barrier module converts electrical control signals from the computer unit to pneumatic or electrical supply signals for operation of the components that are a part of the ODME 2005 equipment. The Zener barrier module contains electrical power supply and zener barriers for the analysing unit and for up to two 4-20mA loop powered flow meters.
An Analysing unit Intended to be installed in the hazardous area. The analysing cabinet contains the oil content measuring unit, a sample feed pump of shear type, a fresh water valve for cleaning purposes and a pressure transmitter that monitors the sample flow through the measuring cell. This compact design makes it possible to install the unit close to the sampling point, which make the sampling pipes distance between the sampling probes and the analysing cabinet as short as possible.
Main Features
WDM - Water Discharge Monitor
Prevents any accidental oil discharge
The Water Discharge Monitor has the advantage to monitor and control the discharge of bilge water to prevent any accidentally oil discharge. All data will be logged and stored for later printout or down load. This will give the operator full control over the discharge.
The log data are stored internally for a minimum of 18 month. This data can at any time be down loaded for overview on a PC via RS232. The data can also be down loaded direct to a printer (option) via RS232. The WDM is equipped with a display for overview, information, status indication and adjustments.
Main Features
CWM - Condensation Water Monitor
Controls your discharge
The Condensation Water Monitor has the advantage to monitor and control the discharge of condensation water to prevent any accidental oil discharge.
All data is logged and stored in the OCM. This gives the operator full control over the discharge.
LOG FUNCTIONS
The log data is stored internally for a minimum of 18 months in the Oil content meter.
The CWM is equipped with a display window for overview, information, status indication and adjustments.
